Tobacco is hazardous not only because it contains 4000 chemicals (of which over 50 cause cancer and many others adversely affect the body) but also because it contains the highly addictive substance: nicotine. Global addiction to this substance is causing an epidemic of death and disease. To address and treat tobacco dependence, treatment must be provided to all tobacco users who wish to quit, plus tobacco control policies and measures must be implemented globally.
